Only dead fish follow the stream

There seem to be no escape when it comes to comparing myself to others when I scroll through instagram. So many beautiful pictures of awesome artwork, inspiring studios and perfectly fluffed pillows. Of course I know all about facades, filters and all that stuff but I really need to remind myself to take a step back and be thankful and apply my own filter. It's not that I don't like the pretty pictures because I really do, but ever so often I fall down the comparison hole, especially when it comes to art.

The best way for me to let go and focus on my own stuff is to open my sketchbook. This one is a moleskine watercolor album in A4 and my goal is to fill it with my unfiltered art this year. This is the first page.

So maybe I should name this blog "The blocked artist"...

I'm starting 2018 with a rough time and a blocked artist mind. You know the feeling when nothing is good enough, your ideas are sh*t, current projects are stupid and you just want to curl up in a ball and feel sorry for yourself. Well, most of us do and we all know it sucks. I become a procrastination master and I catch myself doing the silliest things.

The other day I decided to sit down and do some sketches in my sketchbook to try and shake things loose. I wanted to use my colored pencils but decided that the huge tin they come in is just too inconvenient so I spent 3 (!) hours on the internet looking for the perfect storage case to use when I'm sketching infront of the TV. I could have used a plastic container or a glass jar since I have about a zillion of them but no, I obviously need something new to be able to sketch. So, there were no sketches and no new ideas. I did find a fab container though that will make all my dreams come true...

Hello!

After many years of being an occasional blogger on platforms that drove me crazy I decided to take the plunge and get myself a new website with little fuss. (I'm not sponsored, simply a fangirl.) I'm really looking forward to sharing my creative mess of a mind. As I slowly fill this space with illustrations, rambling notes, favorite things and spiritual glitter, I hope you'll join me and check in now and again for updates.

I'm going to start 2018 with "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron, a 12-week course to higher creativity. I've skimmed through the book and look forward to diving in a bit deeper. I also bought the audio book so I'll be able to listen to it while I work.

If you want to know a little more about me make sure to check out the "About" page. The "Gallery" will be filling up throughout the year and I will also add a "Freebies" tab where I will offer some coloring pages and other goodies.
